1st Annual Amanda Post Track Meet
Presented by Amanda Post Foundation, the La Costa Canyon H.S. Foundation, the Encinitas Educational Foundation was held on June 6, 2015.
Amanda’s dad, Greg Post (pictured on left) and Amanda’s third grade teacher, John Cotter (pictured on right) co-founded the Amanda Post Track Meet for elementary school children.
The track meet is designed to run just like a high school track meet, replete with a “starting pistol” start for each race, timers for each runner in every event, lane assignments for the sprinters, and proper baton passes in the relays. Runners “first call”, “second call”, and “final call” for each race will be announced from the press box.
The goal is to provide elementary school children with an exciting and challenging track meet that gives them a positive introduction to the wonderful world of competitive running.
The track meet was open to boys and girls in the 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade and 6th grade, and each runner could register to run in as many, or as few events as they desired.
The events for each grade level were:
400 meter girls, 400 meter boys, 800 meter girls, 800 meter boys, 100 meter girls, 100 meter boys, 1600 meter girls, 1600 meter boys and the 4 x 100 meter relays.
First place runners in each event received a blue ribbon, second place runners received a red ribbon, and third place runners received a white ribbon.
135 runners and their families participated in a great day of racing, with many parents saying their kids could hardly wait to run again next year.
